A walk in the woods with Hazel
8 Reasons People Are Adding Functional Mushrooms to Their Day
Lion's mane, reishi, turkey tail, chaga and cordyceps were around long before they showed up on coffee shop menus. Hazel knows every one of them by sight. Pull on your boots and she'll show you what each mushroom is for, why five make a better crew than one, and how to tell real mushroom from a scoop of grain.
- Five mushrooms, five jobs: focus and memory, steady energy, immune and stress support, immune and gut support, antioxidant wellness.
- Together they cover more ground than any one mushroom on its own.
- The part matters: fruiting-body extracts plus chaga's sclerotia, with no mycelium and no grain.
- Independently lab-tested at 1,250 mg of beta-glucans per serving, with 99 days to try it.
1They want the right word to show up on time
Organic Lion's Mane Mushroom Extract, 700 mg
Hazel's first stop is an old fallen log in the shade, where a white puff hangs off the bark like a shaggy little waterfall. That's lion's mane. Once you've seen one, you'll never mix it up with anything else.
This is the mushroom people reach for when they want to stay sharp: the name you meant to say, the list you didn't have to write down, the afternoon meeting where you actually kept up. Lion's mane supports focus and memory, and it has been studied in adults for memory and day-to-day mental sharpness.
That's why it's one of the two biggest amounts in our blend, at 700 mg. Give this one a little time. In our reviews, clarity tends to show up around weeks two to four.
“After only a couple of weeks using the Mushroom Blend, there has been a significant difference in clarity and cognizance. The world needs more fungus.”

2They want steady energy without another cup
Organic Cordyceps Mushroom Extract, 100 mg
Next Hazel ducks into the barn, where a small tray of bright orange clubs sits in the window light. That's cordyceps, the cultivated kind called Cordyceps militaris, and it looks a little like someone planted a tray of tiny carrots.
This is the energy mushroom. Cordyceps supports energy and vitality the non-stimulant way. There's no caffeine anywhere in the blend and nothing to crash from, so the afternoon holds without borrowing from tonight, and your morning coffee stays right where it is.
Energy is usually the first thing people notice. Many of our members feel a steady, even energy in the first few days, with cordyceps working right alongside the other four mushrooms.

3They want daily immune support they'll actually keep up
Organic Reishi Mushroom Extract, 700 mg
Out where the woods meet the pasture, Hazel points to an old stump with a glossy red-brown shelf growing off its side. It looks like somebody varnished it. That's reishi, a mushroom people have treasured for centuries.
Reishi supports healthy immune function and the body's own antioxidant defenses, along with a calm, balanced response to a stressful day. Immune support is a daily habit, built over weeks with a routine you keep, so reishi goes in at 700 mg, tied with lion's mane for the biggest amount in the bottle.
Ours is dual-extracted to draw out the full range of reishi's compounds. That matters with this mushroom in particular, because its good stuff comes in two different families, and one kind of extraction only gets part of it.
4They want to look after their gut
Organic Turkey Tail Mushroom Extract, 300 mg
A fallen branch by the creek is covered in little ruffled fans, each one striped in browns, tans and cream like the tail feathers of a wild turkey. Turkey tail is one of the easiest mushrooms to spot on a walk, and one of the easiest to walk right past.
Turkey tail supports healthy immune function and gut health, with human research showing prebiotic activity. Prebiotic means it feeds the good bacteria already living in your gut.
It goes in at 300 mg, the quiet one of the bunch: part of the daily foundation, with benefits that build with daily use over the weeks.
“We've been taking this for a few months now and our bodies seem to love it.”

5They want more of nature's antioxidants
Organic Chaga Mushroom Extract, 300 mg
Hazel's favorite stop is the birch grove. On one white trunk there's a black, crackly lump that looks like burnt charcoal, until you see the rusty orange inside. That's chaga, the one mushroom on this walk that looks nothing like a mushroom. The part we use is that dark growth itself, called the sclerotia, and it grows mostly on birch.
Chaga is one of nature's most antioxidant-rich mushrooms. It rounds out the blend with antioxidant wellness support and contributes to the blend's immune support, right alongside reishi and turkey tail.
6Five mushrooms cover more ground than one

Back in the kitchen, Hazel tips out her basket and lines them up on the table. Five mushrooms, five different jobs. Lion's mane for focus and memory. Cordyceps for energy and vitality. Reishi for immune and stress support. Turkey tail for immune and gut support. Chaga for antioxidant wellness support.
If you've tried one mushroom on its own, you got one job done. Nature rarely works solo. A forest floor is a whole crew working together, and that's the idea behind a synergy blend: five mushrooms supporting your brain, energy, immune system and gut along different pathways, in one serving.
In 5 Mushrooms Reserve Blend that comes to 2,100 mg of organic mushroom extracts in three capsules: lion's mane and reishi at 700 mg each, turkey tail and chaga at 300 mg, cordyceps at 100 mg. Our Naturopathic Doctor set each amount, and you can read every one on the panel.
“I feel like a much better 'me' from taking the Reserve Blend Mushroom supplements!”

7They've learned the part of the mushroom matters
On the walk home, Hazel stops at a rotting log and peels back a strip of loose bark. Underneath is a web of fine white threads. That's mycelium, the root network a mushroom grows from. The mushroom itself, the cap and stem you'd recognize, is called the fruiting body.
Plenty of mushroom products are mycelium grown on oats or rice, then ground up grain and all. So what you mostly get is the grain, wearing a mushroom's name.
Ours is the mushroom itself. Four of the five are extracts of the fruiting body, and chaga is an extract of its sclerotia, the dense part chaga actually grows. No mycelium, no grain. Extract means the mushroom was opened up so its good compounds come out.
8They want proof the mushroom is really in there

Hazel saves the best question for last: how do you know there's real mushroom in the capsule? A label tells you how much powder went in. It can't tell you how much of that powder is actually mushroom.
So we had an independent lab count it. Our first extract lot was independently lab-tested at 1,250 mg of beta-glucans per serving. Beta-glucans are the mushroom's own compounds, the ones your immune cells recognize, and they're how you know it's real mushroom, and a lot of it. We checked more than 40 mushroom supplements in October 2026, and the next best was about half.
Mushrooms are a crop, so that's the result for that lot, and we'll post the next lot's number when it's tested. The full report is public on our testing page.

Questions people ask
What makes a mushroom "functional"?
It's a friendly name for mushrooms people take for daily support instead of for dinner. Lion's mane, reishi, turkey tail, chaga and cordyceps are five of the most talked-about, and all five are in this bottle.
Will I taste mushrooms?
Nope. It's three capsules, so there's nothing to taste, stir or froth. There's no caffeine either, so your regular coffee stays your regular coffee.
How do I take it?
Three capsules a day, ideally with a meal. Breakfast is the easy habit, and splitting them across meals works too. If capsules aren't your thing, open them and stir the contents into a smoothie, yogurt or applesauce.
How soon will I notice anything?
Many members feel a steady energy in the first few days. The clear-headed side takes longer: in our reviews, it tends to show up around weeks two to four. Benefits build with daily use, so give it the window. You've got 99 days.
Are the mushrooms organic?
Yes. All five mushroom extracts are organic, and each one is marked Organic on its own line of the Supplement Facts panel. You'll also see organic rice hulls under other ingredients. That's the husk that keeps everything flowing smoothly through the capsule machine, and nothing was grown on it.
Can I take it with my other Hippie Farms products?
Yes. All of our products can be taken together, in any combination, each at its own label directions.
I take a prescription. Can I take this?
Our formulas are generally well tolerated, and plenty of folks in the Groovy Commune take 5 Mushrooms alongside their prescriptions. We always recommend checking with a doctor or pharmacist before starting ours or any dietary supplement. We're happy to send the full ingredient list so you can bring it along.
